Making The Last Few Hours Really Count

{relaxing in the sweltering heat...sweltering in a good way...just before the last round of tennis}
{finally! the search for lemon picking ended successfully!
now, what to do with only 20hrs remaining in palm desert, 10 of which will be spent sleeping, and no possibility of bringing them across the border. do you think housekeeping might like them?
it's too bad for us...they would have been key elements in a fantastic guacamole.}
{swim little fishy swim}
{not feeling 100%, this four year old chose to spend his last night roughin' it on the chaise lounge. ah, it's a tough life. he doesn't know it yet, but he's looking forward to returning to the perks of canadian health care.}
{CANNONBALL!!}
{is it possible, do you think, to keep this healthy glow until, say june or so?}

Nope, We Are Never Gonna Leave

We added a tiny bit of adventure to our...ah hem...adventure, and hotwired ourselves a new hotel. Ours was fine but we thought we'd try our luck with a cheap deal, a (possibly) new venue and new scenery. Knowing full well we could end up at our (current) hotel, we would still have been paying less using a "new" hotwire deal. So, we went for it...and man oh man did we luck out. I would highly, highly recommend hotwire deals. We've used the site several times in the past and have been impressed each time. We got ourselves incredible digs at the Embassy Suites...for about 20% the regular cost. Yeehaw.

The plumbing is great here, too...just in case you were worried.

It's amazingly calm, quiet, and serene.

You can blow bubbles around a fountain.

And the roses are beautiful...they remind me of my Granny...oh, and so do the Crabtree and Evelyn amenities in the bathroom. I feel that we are going out in style.

Fresh Off The Tree...

...hand (kid) picked.
...(nearly) as sizeable as a small child's (large-ish) head.
...ummmm, but this time bigger sure is not better.
...it appears that while giant and Babar-like in semblance, this citrus is better when smaller and firmly enveloped in it's peel.

{my grapefruit: by Tait}
It's still pretty cool looking though, don't you think?

The Living Desert

End The Wait

I'm sure I'll be back to this space to post a shot that encapsulates our day, later. But for now, matters of greater importance than the sun, the heat, relaxation, and therapy found in the form of Target are pressing...

Family.

Everyone needs one.

Every child deserves one.

Canada (Focus) is beginning to truly embrace and share this human right.

Headed South. Chasing Sun.

{umm yes, i am ornery enough to have labeled treat and snack items for days 1, 2, 3. it worked great.}
{our super-helper}

{on our way..}
{oh man...it's best not to look at the km lying in wait, when just starting out...}

{early at the start of our first full day}

{a little fromage for you all. this was before the super scary border lady. i still get chills}

{you may or may not recognize the font of the red letters in the back but in case you were worried, our first stop was at target to grab a few food items...which we then used to make lunch...which took place upon our cooler as well as a piece of curb.
it was perfect - this is how memories are made}
{keeping the mood light with a little sugar.
in case you are wondering - because this much sugar seems a little out of the realm of moi -
they were each given 1 ringpop which they could enjoy throughout all 3 days...at any time they wished}

{in case anyone is wondering the first sign you see as you enter oregon, directly across the interstate from this welcome below, is a gigantic sign for hooters. just sayin'...a little class people, a little class}
{not bad eh?}
{it was a long first full day}
{starting day two...fortunately we're still all smiles}
{smiles started to be fewer and farther in between somewhere around here}
{you may recognize this girl...we had the privilege of stopping by her home and hanging out, on our way down}

{we saw more snow in the past 2 1/2 days than we have all winter in BC, i'm quite certain...interstates and major roads closed, chains required, floods everywhere, high winds you name it we drove it. it was insane}
{approaching our final destination}

{mmmm, supper.}
